1909
The beginning of analytical cubism period. In May 1909, Picasso and Fernande travel to Barcelona and, for the second time, visit the village of Horta de San Juan, a place that is usually associated with the artist's movement towards analytical cubism. In fall, they return to Paris and settle in Montmartre area on Boulevard de Clichy. In a large studio overlooking the L'avenue Frochot, he creates most of his analytical-cubism paintings. During this year Picasso exhibites in Germany, in the Munich Thannhauser Gallery for the first time. He also creates plaster and bronze sculptures, such as Apple, and The Head of a Woman (Fernande) with strongly noticeable faceted surfaces and overstated volumes.
