April through September, Picasso paints a wall in the 14th century chapel in Vallauris. Painting on the "war and peace" theme will be finished in 1957. On November 18th attends poet and close friend Paul Eluard’s funeral in Paris. November 25th creates a series of Balzac’s portraits using lithography technique. In December, upon his return to Vallauris, he continues to work on the wall painting for the chapel.
